Spanning fourteen years in the blogosphere is no small feat, especially in a niche as passionate as pet blogging. As the mind behind Fidose of Reality, I’ve observed and experienced the rhythmic pulse of this community, and I’m ready to share where we've been, where we are headed, and why you should stay engaged with us.

Beginnings and Current Focus

My blogging journey commenced over a decade ago, with my first foray into pet blogging dating back 14 years. From collaborating with various publications to launching a blog for a start-up dog magazine, my focus has evolved significantly. Since founding Fidose of Reality in 2009, the emphasis has shifted from general dog health to a concentrated approach on healthy living for Cocker Spaniels and their companions.

This focus encompasses various aspects: dog health, behavior and training, nutrition, and lifestyle. Each area aims to enhance the lives of our furry friends and support shelters and rescues dedicated to Cocker Spaniels in need.

Notable Achievements in 2022

This past year brought numerous proud moments, including:

1. Growing my blog's monthly traffic substantially.
2. Forming partnerships with brands I genuinely admire, and continuing my role as a brand ambassador.
3. Diversifying revenue streams, maximizing potential income.
4. Winning a $500 essay contest with DoggyRade and securing a $1,500 donation for a Cocker Spaniel rescue.
5. Revamping my email strategy with a cleaned-up list, a dedicated landing page for DogMinder, and a compelling downloadable freebie.
6. Creating my first email funnel aimed specifically at Cocker Spaniel owners.
7. Refreshing older posts and removing irrelevant content.
8. Growing the Club Cocker Facebook group, which fostered a thriving community highlighted in an article from Dogster.
9. Securing a dream client who actually reached out to me!
10. Having my wife step in to assist with blog operations as we celebrate 30 wonderful years of marriage.

Confronting Challenges in Blogging

Amidst these achievements, I faced significant challenges as well. A personal reckoning occurred, prompting me to evaluate my work-life balance. I found myself becoming overwhelmed with constant work, often neglecting my well-being.

The loss of my beloved Dexter in 2021 profoundly impacted my outlook on life and work. His unexpected passing highlighted the importance of being prepared for emergencies, leading to me writing a guide on finding emergency vet care, a must-read for pet owners.

Through mourning, I discovered new joys alongside our new puppy, Baby Alvin. Adopting him ignited a newfound energy and perspective. I’ve learned that life is fleeting, and it’s essential to cherish moments outside of work. With this clarity, I adopted a more relaxed approach to my business, savoring time with family and pets.

Lessons for Better Blogging

One significant lesson I gleaned in 2022 pertains to navigating the evolving landscape of AI. While undoubtedly a transformative force, there’s no need to fear it. AI is set to enhance rather than eliminate creativity within the writing realm. Embracing such tools can support and elevate our blogging endeavors.

Ambitious Goals for 2023

Looking ahead, I’ve set three primary objectives for my blog:

1. Enhance website traffic and revenue through consistent content creation and client engagement.
2. Double my email subscriber base while maintaining a high engagement rate.
3. Incorporate dedicated video content to complement the blog.

Vision for the Future

Ideally, a year from now, I foresee my second pet industry venture launching successfully by the end of February 2023. I also aim to complete my first ebook and explore exciting spin-off ideas that can further enrich the Fidose of Reality brand.

Investment Strategies

Should I find myself with an extra $1,000 to allocate towards my blog, I would consider investing in an SEO tool like Ahrefs—if there’s interest among fellow bloggers to share the cost.
